THE CONSEQUENCES ARRIVE

Aceh, November 2024: Centuries of topsoil washing into the ocean. Infrastructure paralyzed. Thousands without power. The secondary consequences of extraction arrive with mathematical certainty.

A STATE OF EMERGENCY DECLARED.

The rivers run brown in northern Aceh today.

The rivers carry thousands of trees, not because of weather. Because of choices.

Topsoil that took centuries to build washes into the ocean. Trees, millions of them, block dams, overflow rivers, destroy infrastructure. Coffee trapped in mountains. Thousands without power for days.

Rains fall in this part of the world, they always have, but this time its different. The evidence floats in brown water. All of it traceable to deforestation. The removal of context.

Clearcut ancient pristine jungles, replaced with mono cropped non-native trees. The intricate interplay of a system evolved over millennia, destroyed in months.

Aceh is the last place on Earth where tigers, elephants, rhinos, and orangutang roam free. The Leuser National Park is potentially the most biodiverse place in the world. Some call the Amazon the lungs of the world. Leuser is the heart.

This area once spanned thousands of miles. Over the last 50 years, the corporate extraction machine has eaten it alive. The very infrastructure which keeps us all alive, as seen in the red sections in the map of Aceh below.

RED = DEFORESTATION

It costs a lot of money to clearcut pristine ancient jungle. The funds come from thousands of miles away, insulated from the consequences of their actions.

These funds dont magic up the money. If you follow the source of the money funding this then destination is very unsettling. It’s you.

From this point forward: ignorance is negligence.
